Applied Geographic Information Science

The Minor in Applied Geographic Information Science (GIScience) provides a framework to understand theories, methods and techniques associated with geospatial technologies. Students learn to apply GIScience and spatial technologies in real-world situations through a choice of directed study, fieldwork or internship opportunities.

Complete the Core Courses:

  • AN 3800 - Introduction to Geographic Information Systems (GIS) (4)
  • AN 3801 - Principles of Cartography (4)
  • AN 3802 - Remote Sensing (RS) Using Aerial and Satellite Imagery (4)

Select one topical elective from the following list:

  • AN 3803 - Spatial Data Modeling and Analysis (4)
  • ENV 4520 - Geographic Information System Analysis for Sustainability (4)
  • PS 3850 - Geographic Information System Analysis for Sustainability (4)
  • CRJ 3351 - Geography of Crime (4)

Select one applied elective from the following list:

  • AN 3581 - Archaeological Field School (4 OR 8)
  • AN 3995 - Directed Geospatial Research (4)
  • AN 4950 - Internship in Applied Geographic Information Science (4)
